Ancient Order of Hibernians, Div 2, Greene County, NY
The Ancient Order of Hibernians was founded in this country in 1836 at St. James Church in New York City. Our roots, however, are found in Ireland dating back 300 years. Since then we have continued to grow and prosper until the AOH has become the largest and most influential body of men, both young and old, of Irish lineage in the world. The AOH is the American fraternal organization of individuals of Irish descent.
The Irish name for a Mass Rock is Carraig an Aifrinn: a rock or an earth-fast stone that was used for Catholic mass during the Penal times in Ireland, “an altar from which Irish Catholics could practice their religion.” The Mass Rock AOH Division meets on the third Thursday every month at Gallagher’s Banquet Hall, 513 Main St, Cairo, NY.
Kingston, NY AOH was instrumental in bringing the rock to our site on the grounds of the Michael J. Quill Sports and Cultural Centre grounds in East Durham, NY. Always feel free to stop by the blessed rock & grounds and offer a prayer for your intentions. Masses are offered there periodically.
